Share the Dignity is a charity that works to make a real, on-the-ground difference in the lives of women and girls experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough.

They work to distribute sanitary items to those in need and work to end period poverty in Australia.

With the poverty rate in Australia currently at 13.6 per cent, 3.24 million people, in Australia live below the poverty line.

To get by, many are skipping meals and rationing food or skipping doctors’ appointments and medication, compromising their basic needs such as going without period products for their menstrual hygiene management.

The charities campaign #ItsInTheBag has grown to become one of Australia’s most loved Christmas giving campaigns however Share the Dignity can never get enough bags to fill the requests.

In 2020, Share the Dignity received over 140,000 requests for #ItsInTheBag donations and collected 95,000 bags, which left a gap of over 45,000 requests that they were unable to fulfill.

Again, this year, Café Flagstone is getting right behind the charity and have become a drop off location for items needed.

“It’s that time of year again, we’re collecting sanitary items for Share the Dignity #ItsInTheBag campaign,” said their Facebook post.

“We will need clean and tidy handbags, sanitary items, gift items, shampoo, conditioner, and any essential items that would help a woman or child in need.”

What they will not be taking are items such as food items, razors, scissors, aerosols, condoms, or sharps of any kind. This is to stay in line with codes of practice.

Café Flagstone will also be hosting their annual afternoon tea for digni-tea on Sunday the 28th November at 2.30pm.

It is $25 per person and $5 from ever ticket sold will be going back to Share the Dignity.

“We will host bingo, raffles and cent auction on the day so please book in early as numbers are limited.

“Hope you see you there to support this amazing cause and we’d love to beat last year’s efforts; with your help we can make that possible.

“Let’s brighten the lives of those in need this festive season.”
