The Bethania Community Centre has been open to residents for the past 30 years, 7th April 1990 is the official opening date, and is the base for many community groups and regular hirers.

Situated on Station Road opposite the train station and next door Bethania Pool, the centre is available for permanent or casual hire and also hosts local, state and federal election polling booths.

The 2019 committee was struggling to fill the position of President until Les Hoppe stepped up to take on the role and join Louie Naumovski as Treasure and Christine Richards as Secretary who had both been on the committee for the past couple of years.

The 2020 annual general meeting was held last night with Bert van Manen MP presiding over the proceedings as the committee formally vacated their positions.

The membership had grown over the past eight months and that saw an increase in the number of members putting their hands up to take on a committee position.

The 2020/2021 committee is:
President - Lee McKenzie McKinnon
Vice President – Lorel Robinson
Secretary – Sharon Hamilton
Treasurer – Valda Wernoski

Left to Right - Sharon Hamilton, Valda Wernoski, Lee McKenzie McKinnon & Lorel Robinson

While Christine has stepped down from the committee, both Louie and Les have remained as general committee along with a handful of other members.

Incoming president Lee McKenzie McKinnon thanked the outgoing committee for their work and effort over the past 10 months.

“It was great to see so many people wanting to take on a role in the committee for the centre and while we will take a bit of time to find our feet I am looking forward to working with the new committee,” Lee said after the meeting.

“I want to thank Les for his work at the top and stepping into the role late last year and to Louie for all of his hard work for the past three years in turning the centre around.

“Of course I want to thank Christine as well for her effort as it does take a team to make these places run.

“I would also like to thank everyone that has put their trust in me and voted for me and I am sure the management team will do you all proud.”
