Logan simply wouldn’t be Logan without its army of volunteers.

If you know someone who donates their time to our make our city even greater, nominate them for the 2019 Logan Loves Volunteers awards.

The annual awards are open across two categories – the Frank Lenz Memorial Award for Volunteer of the Year and the Davida Steele Memorial Award for Outstanding Community Organisation.

City of Logan Acting Mayor Cherie Dalley said the city boasts more than 7000 people who regularly donate their time to the community.

“Logan’s incredible volunteers do so much – they assist the elderly, read to children, mentor our youth, run our community sports, care for our environment and much more, and our city would not be the same without them,” Cr Dalley said.

“And most volunteers go about their business in a very humble way and rarely seek or gain recognition.

“I’m sure most people out there know someone who deserves their moment in the sun so I’d encourage them to fill out a nomination form.”

City Image and Innovation Committee Chairperson Councillor Laurie Smith said last year’s awards saw a record field of nominees.

“Twenty people and organisations were put forward for last year’s awards, something I hope we top this year,” Cr Smith said.

“Apart from being a great honour for the individual or organisation, it’s also a great way to promote their cause and inspire others to get active in their community.”

Logan Central’s Beverley Pritchard won last year’s award for her work with the city’s migrant and refugee community while Logan SES took out the Outstanding Community Organisation.

Nominations close on Friday, April 12 and the winners will receive their award at a special breakfast at the Logan Metro Sports and Event Centre on Saturday, May 18.
