Logan City Council’s new waste contract with Cleanaway starts on Thursday (July 1) and for most residents nothing changes other than the blue and white trucks of the new contractor.

The general waste and recycle bin collection day will remain the same unless Council has provided residents with a notice of a change.

Environment and Waste Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, said some bin collection times may change under the new contract.

“We don’t want anyone’s bins to be missed so please make sure your bin is out the night before or before 6am on your usual pickup day,? Cr Raven said.

To ensure a smooth transition to the new waste collection service:

• Residents can find out their scheduled bin collection day by using Council’s free online property tool My Property Logan City Council

• A waste and recycling collection calendar can be downloaded to keep track of your recycling week. Go to Waste and recycling calendar 2020-2021 (logan.qld.gov.au)

• The calendar is also available as a fridge magnet. It can be ordered by calling 3412 3412 or emailing [email protected].

• An app is also available that provides a reminder that your bin is due to be emptied. Download City of Logan app – Logan City Council

The new opt-in green waste bin service also begins on July 1. Green waste bins are collected on the same day but opposite week to recycling bin collections.

Residents who confirmed their green waste bin order prior to April 25 should have now received their new bin.

Requests for green waste bins placed after April 25 will have their green waste bins delivered in the coming weeks.

Yesterday Cleanaway invited Mayor Darren Power, Deputy Mayor Cr Raven and other Councillors to their official opening and tour of the new Park Ridge depot that will be servicing the City of Logan’s waste and recycling collection.

Cr Hall for Division 6 said the depot will be the base for Cleanaway’s fleet of up to 60 vehicles along with driver amenities, onsite workshop with adjoining wash bay and accommodate contract management and admin staff.

“In real terms this site provides investment, local jobs and new work opportunities for our city.

“I am very excited that through the new contract with Cleanaway and thanks to the support of residents subscribing to the service our city now has a dedicated green waste collection.

“Thank you to all the residents who helped make this a reality for our city.?

Green waste bins are offered in three sizes – a 140-litre bin ($46 per year), a 240- litre bin ($51 per year) or a 360-litre bin ($76 per year). Up to two bins per property can be requested.

Property owners will pay for green waste bins each quarter in their rates. Charges will apply from when the bin is received.

Tenants can also apply for a green waste bin but must commit and pay for 12 months service in advance.

Call 3412 3412 to order a green waste bin.
