South-East Queensland mountain bikers are set to rediscover one of the region’s most popular riding destinations next month – the trails of Logan’s Daisy Hill.

The Shimano MTB Grand Prix will begin at 9am on August 1, with both casual and experienced endurance racers involved.

Logan City Council is supporting event host Rocky Trail Entertainment and its partner, the RATS Cycling Club, in running the event which is billed as a great way to get back outdoors after the recent lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.

The event will offer four (GP4) and seven (GP7) hour races for solo, pairs or teams of competitors.

More than 120 riders are expected to take part.

Council’s Lifestyle Committee Chairperson Laurie Koranski said Daisy Hill has a reputation as being one of the best and most accessible MTB destinations in South-East Queensland.

The event is the first time that cross-country racing will be hosted at Logan’s Koala Bushland Coordinated Conservation Area, which includes the Daisy Hill mountain biking trails.

“The Daisy Hills tracks are long and challenging in parts for experienced riders” Cr Koranski said.

“We encourage everyone who might not have ridden Daisy Hill before to attend this event and experience it for themselves.”

More sporting and outdoor events are being lined up for Logan in coming months, as part of Council’s ongoing event attraction strategy.

Among them will be the 2020 Touch Rugby League Queensland State Championships, held at the Bill Norris Oval in Beenleigh from July 31 to August 2 and Rogue Raid, at the Bayside Wake Park in Carbrook on August 29 and 30.
