Logan City Council has launched a Game on for Women (GOFW) initiative.

The City of Logan’s inaugural Game on for Women program was established in 2019 with much acclaim and success.

Council has again undertaken to deliver its industry-leading approach to increasing female participation in sport.

Council was successful in securing $100,000 from the Queensland Government’s Active KIT grants program and is allocating a further $77,000 from the Logan Sports Development Program, co-funded by the Brisbane Lions Football Club and Council.

City Lifestyle Chair, Councillor Laurie Koranski said Council is committed to ensuring sport is accessible to everyone.

“Sport and being active plays such an important role in our community and it’s important for Council to provide programs that encourage healthy activities,” Cr Koranski said.

“We’re keen to encourage women to play sport.

“We are hoping the Game on for Women program will provide incentives for more women to get engaged in sport across the city.”

The GOFW initiative aims to support City of Logan women both on and off the field as sports players, coaches, officials, and leaders.

The program will be delivered across three key elements:

• Game On For Women - Inclusive Clubs Supporting 20 City of Logan-based community sport clubs to complete Inclusive Participation Plans. The clubs will be guided through the process and invited to nominate women from their club to attend a Leadership Masterclass and access accredited training.

• Game On For Women - Sporting Women’s Network Previous Game on For Women participants and new ones are invited to attend networking events throughout the year.

• Game On For Women – Bursary Two $5000 bursaries to support local women to study a sport-related degree.

GOFW strategically supports Council’s endorsed Active Logan Strategy Implementation Plan 2020-2024.

Meanwhile, the nomination period for this year’s City of Logan Sports Awards is nearly at an end.

Entries will be accepted until 5pm on Sunday, August 15.

The City of Logan’s annual Sports Awards is an important opportunity to recognise and celebrate our local athletes, sporting organisations and volunteers.
