In a month from now the new Logan City Council will be handing down the 2020/21 Budget. Monday July 20 will see this council’s first Budget with expectations running high throughout the community.

Mayor Darren Power said managing a multi-million dollar budget was no easy task, especially in a tough economic climate, and the newly-elected Councillors were dedicated to delivering the best possible outcomes for the City of Logan.

“It’s only been a few short weeks since we were sworn in,” he said.

“I have been able to help our new Councillors on the journey through an extensive budget process as they have come to deeply understand the Council business.

“I’m pleased to say we’ve had some excellent discussions to ensure we will frame a Budget that will continue to provide essential services to the community and boost our recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The date for adopting the Budget complies with legislative requirements as Queensland councils need to meet an August 1 deadline.

“July 20 is later than what we’ve done in the past, but Councillors were very deliberate and thorough with their analysis of Council’s books,” Cr Power said.

“As a result, our July quarter rates notices will be issued later, but I want to assure ratepayers that we will keep our usual four-week discount period for payment.”

City Governance Committee Chairperson, Councillor Lisa Bradley, said the elected members were committed to building a strong and resilient City of Logan.

“Whether it’s road upgrades, waste collection, water, community safety, parks, libraries or events, Council is always there for our residents and businesses,” Cr Bradley said.

“As Councillors, our priority is to ensure the community gets value for money, while considering Council’s income and expenses.

“We have looked at ways to responsibly increase revenue, minimise waste and deliver services and facilities to benefit the whole community.

“We are finalising a responsible budget that meets the community’s needs and expectations, while also looking to secure Council’s long-term sustainability.”
