The next round of free exhibitions at Logan Art Gallery will offer an insight into outback scenes, family mealtimes and the amazing animals at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.

The work of artists Helena Jackson-Lloyd and Lei Xu will be among five exhibitions on display from January 22 to February 27.

Helena created a series of large abstract paintings during an artist-in-residency at Curtin Springs Cattle Station in the Northern Territory.

Her exhibition, Of the desert, showcases natural materials found in the area.

Woodridge artist Lei Xu has produced a new series of oil paintings for this exhibition.

The smell of memory focuses on people enjoying food, sharing meals and happy times around the dinner table.

City of Logan Mayor Darren Power will open the new exhibition round and launch the 2021 gallery program from 5pm on Friday, January 22.

The opening will be held over three half-hour sessions in line with current State Government COVID restrictions.

The new exhibitions will then open to the public in two further COVID-safe sessions from 5.45pm to 6.15pm and 6.30pm to 7pm.

Helena Jackson-Lloyd will give a short tour of her exhibition during these sessions.

This exhibition round also includes:

• Elements by Edens Landing artist Richard Connors, whose abstract paintings explore the four basic elements of earth, fire, water and air.
• Urban menagerie by Ronelle Reid from Cedar Vale. The exhibition of oil, ink and gouache paintings highlights images captured during a week-long artistic residency at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary late last year. Ronelle’s quirky compositions pair species that don’t coexist in nature.
• Chloe Wigg from Rochedale South turned to art therapy after she was injured and medically retired from work. Her works in the Natural resilience: inner feelings, outward reflections exhibition draw on her own experience of living with an invisible disability.

The 2021 program can be accessed online at logan.qld.gov.au/gallery2021 with the Logan Art Gallery located on the corner of Jacaranda Ave and Wembley Rd, Logan Central. It is open from 10am to 5pm between Tuesday and Saturday. Entry is free.
