The Beenleigh Cane Parade & Gala Ball is coming back for 2023 but will be with new dates that suit the local can farmers.

The parade and ball returned to the City of Logan in 2021 after a long hiatus with the two events supported strongly by the community.

“After much consultation with stakeholders, and the local Cane Farming industry – the Rotary Club of Beenleigh came to the realisation that holding these events in October, mid-cane harvest season, was not sustainable for supporting the greatest purpose of the event – bringing our community together to celebrate first and foremost our heritage, along with our current community spirit and our future,” read a statement late last year.

“As such, a decision was made and supported by key stakeholders to move the events across two weekends in May.

“Moving forward, and in a permanent fixture for the future planning, the Beenleigh Cane Parade will be held on the second Saturday in May, with the Beenleigh Cane Gala Ball held on the third Saturday in May.

“It is hoped that this new format will allow for growth of the events in years to come to eventually become a larger festival.”

Councillor for Division 12, Karen Murphy, is excited to see both the parade and gala ball back in 2023.

“Don’t forget to save the date for the Beenleigh Cane Parade & Gala Ball 2023,” Cr Murphy said.

“The new dates mean we can get more involvement from our local cane farmers and an even bigger event this year.”
