The local elections are getting nearer, March 16, and the candidates are all starting to show their faces.

Council doesn’t go into caretaker period until January 29, which then gives anyone wanting to nominate until February 13 to register, meaning not all names will be out in the public just yet.

This article will be updated as more names register to help keep you up to date with who is wanting your vote this March.

Logan City Council Mayoral Candidates

Brett Raguse – Former Australian Labor Party politician representing the Division of Forde, 2007 – 2010, Group Director & Auctioneer and Logan Community Financial Services Ltd board member. (For more information, go to the candidates Facebook and websites)

James Reid – A member of the Jaguar Drivers Club of Queensland, Mr Reid is an independent candidate and has Logan’s best interest at heart. Does not believe in party politics and is a resident of Division 3. (For more information, go to the candidates Facebook and websites)

Division 1 Candidates

Peta Duffy – Has lived in Division 1 for 36 years, growing up in Springwood and raising her own family in the same neighbourhood. She has a broad range of experience, from senior management in the mental health sector to working in large publicly listed and privately owned companies as a Financial Controller. Peta is also active in the community as a Justice of the Peace a volunteer for the Rochedale/Springwood Meals on Wheels and is a member of the Rochedale/Springwood Lions. Alex Fisher – a lifelong resident of Division 1 who has spent the past decade working in leadership roles in not-for-profit organisations and wants to make a difference in the community where she grew up and is now raising her own family. Division 3 Candidates

Mindy Russell – Managed The Family Place, a community-led family support program in Logan which provided strategic partnering across disciplines to solve complex issues while working with families to provide their children with every advantage. Kahil Evans – A Structural Engineer and local freelance handyman with a love for woodworking and rock climbing. Division 4 Candidates

Joshua Lucey – He moved to Logan in early 2017 and has involved himself in the community serving as a board member and President of the Loganlea Community Centre and volunteered his time with PCYC on the Braking the Cycle Program. Nathan St Ledger – He has been part of the Logan community for 40 years in both a professional and volunteer capacity. Ran a successful trade business for the past 21 years. Paul Jackson – He is the former senior leader of Park Ridge Baptist Church for over 25 years, holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Religion & Theology), Social Science (Religion and Theology), married and five adult children and several grandchildren. Tony Hall – Formerly an award winning real estate agent, manager and advocate for the Logan area, Tony spent most of his youth traveling Australia as a trapeze artist and truck driver working in his family’s circus (The Great Australian Circus). Has been an elected Councillor since 2020.

Division 7 Candidates

Tim Frazer – Immediately after completing his school studies, Tim joined the Army Reserve. He has a Psychology degree and holds certificates in Engineering (Fitting and Turning) and Training and Assessment. Has been an elected Councillor since 2020. Anthony Shorten – Living in Logan for over 20 years, he’s a passionate advocate for community welfare and has a six-point plan that focuses on safe communities, better connectivity, enhanced playgrounds, improved public transport, greener suburbs, and ensuring value for residents’ rates. Jacob Heremaia – Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD), holds a Diploma of Procurement and Contracting and is accredited in PRINCE2 Project Management. Has been an elected Councillor since 2020.

Scott Bannan – Owned a construction business and promoted local events. He is president and coach of a rugby league club, a member of on call QFES and is an active supporter of Jimboomba Cricket Club’s Pink Stumps Day and Jimboomba X Stadium events. Has been an elected Councillor since 2020.

Miriam Stemp – Has a Bachelor of Business Accountancy and worked as a senior accountant for a Beenleigh-based firm. She then went on to operate small business ventures from home for 12 years to work around her family. Has been an elected Councillor since 2020.

Natalie Willcocks – As a tertiary qualified high school teacher, Mrs Willcocks taught Health and Physical Education, Legal Studies, and Home Economics for 10 years in mainstream educational settings. For the next five years, she worked with disengaged and disadvantaged young people in a transitional educational setting. Has been an elected Councillor since 2020.

Division 12 Candidates

Karen Murphy – 15-year career in the real estate industry as a Fully Licensed Real Estate Agent. Awarded Volunteer of the Year by Quota Beenleigh 2016, Cr Murphy was named Volunteer of the Year by Quota International in 2017 in Washington DC, for her work with the youth of Logan. A Past President of the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce, Cr Murphy was also the Founding Member of STAAR inc. (Standing Tall Against Abusive Relationships).
