Former Australian Labor Party politician, Brett Raguse, has made a late announcement that he will be entering the mayoral race as a candidate.

Mr Raguse was a member of the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2010, representing the Division of Forde, losing the election to current member Bert van Manen.

This will be the third attempt to win over voters for the position of Logan City Mayor, following a failed campaign in 2016 to Luke Smith and 2020 to Darren Power.

Born in March 1960, Mr Raguse obtained a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, TAFE Queensland, Certificate IV in Graphic Arts, Kangaroo Point TAFE and a Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Teaching Honours, Griffith University.

In 2013 Mr Raguse was elected to the board of Logan Community Financial Services Ltd, Community Bank Logan, and currently he is the Group Director & Auctioneer at MiCasa Realty.

“After the tough years of COVID, the resultant economic instability, and the recent announcement that the current Mayor, Darren Power, will not run again as Mayor in 2024 – the residents of Logan will now have a choice to choose the person who they believe will be the best person to run our city,” said Mr Raguse on his newly launched Facebook page.

“A person they believe will inspire a positive vision for Logan. A vision that will create unity amongst our residents and their local communities, whilst also driving and supporting economic stability for our city.

“I want to be that person.

“As a former Federal Member, a respected businessman in Logan and long-term Logan community advocate, I am hugely invested in Logan City on many levels.

“I am very proud to announce that I am contesting the 16 March 2024 local government election, to become the next Mayor of Logan City.”
