Logo is a world craze, and it is nothing new for children to use their imaginations to create some wonderful designs.
For one young Logan boy, playing with Lego was more than just some fun, it was a mission to build one-of-a-kind vehicles and gift them to children spending time in Logan Hospital over Christmas.
Patrick Meszaros, eight, from Shailer Park, spent more than two months building and creating emergency vehicles and more because he didn’t want children in hospital to miss out on getting a gift.
“I felt pretty special being able to actually hand them out to the children and pick one out – just for them,” said Patrick.
“It made me happy when they were smiling.”
In 2022, Patrick spent a lot of time playing and building his Lego and created a replica Logan House Fire Support Network van, along with many other cars, to give to children after a house fire. Some of his cars were also donated for the emergency services Santa run that year.
“Patrick asked me about the Christmas toy run for 2023 and I had read that LHFSN had closed,” said Patrick’s mum Nerida.
“He was concerned that the children in hospital wouldn’t get any presents so I told him I would enquire if he could make some for the hospital and that’s where I met Kylie, who has been amazing and supportive.
“It’s a very proud moment for me. I’ve just tried to support him, and we love his thoughtfulness of others.
“Patrick makes the vehicles on his own, but I double check them and offer my suggestions if needed.”
Kylie Mott, Volunteer Coordinator at Logan Hospital, helped Nerida and Patrick make this gift giving possible.
“On behalf of all of us here at Logan Hospital, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you for Patrick’s generous donation,” said Kylie.
The planning is already underway for Christmas 2024 with Patrick enjoying building them so much he has committed to have more ready to donate.
“The most fun is being able to create them,” said Patrick.
“The designs and looks that they are all different and then being able to give them all a name. I put the name on the Christmas note for them, so they know it.”
