It’s been a busy few months for Soroptimist International Logan (SIL) group who have been working hard across the city.

Soroptimist International Logan are a group of women who come together for monthly meetings in Springwood to plan, develop and evaluate projects, network with local agencies, raise awareness and educate, share social breakfasts, and commit to helping others and the environment.

SIL currently have a display at Logan Central Library where it showcases the work of their members in the community including NNNE, care-packs, educational bursary project, International Women’s Day theme & SIL Community Bursary and Art Competition.

SIL members helped cleaned up some areas of Logan for Clean Up Australia Day. Following the cleaning, SIL do a report to the Clean Up Australia organisation which allows for identification of trends in the types and spread of rubbish throughout Australia.

International Women’s Day was acknowledged with their annual dinner. Guest speaker, Professor Susan Harris Rimmer, took the group on a journey that looked at ‘Inspiring Inclusion” by ‘counting Her In’ to ‘Accelerate Progress’.

The importance of gender disaggregated data was discussed to get a more accurate picture of current issues facing women and girls. Only through accurate information can things move towards a sustainable, equitable future where everyone benefits.

SIL members also took part in the International Women’s Day Fun Run to raise funds for cancer research and support.
