November 11, 2020, when the world was in full crisis over the pandemic, Des and Jeff Souter decided to open Aussie Pet Collective in Slacks Creek.
With years of planning and finding the right location, the pandemic was not going to stop this dynamic duo from opening the doors.
Aussie Pet Collective is a consortium of small Aussie businesses who hand make or sell Australian made items for pets and pet lovers.
When the sign was turned from closed to open, Des and Jeff had 14 vendors with them for the start of the journey. During the following 12 months, they face lockdowns, masks, and a lot of uncertainty, like many other businesses.
Des and Jeff worked tirelessly and have seen their idea grow into a seven day a week operation with 70 vendors now tucked inside the premises.
The Slacks Creek location is a one stop shop for dog food, toys, treats, clothing, leashes and so much more plus they have cat, bird, and even rat products. There is so much that it is hard to keep up. You can also book a dog birthday party, get professional photos taken of your pet and have your best friend turned into a beautiful drawing that you can hang on the wall forever.
Before cutting the birthday cake Des said that she wanted to thank everyone for being at the event.
“One year and I didn’t know if we would make it, but we started with 14 businesses and we hit 70 now which is just awesome.
“I think one of the best things about this whole place is the people as it is a community that we have here so thank you everyone.”
The vendors along with friends and special guests celebrated the morning with a champagne breakfast with the dogs not missing out as there were plenty of treats on offer.
Logan City Councillor for Division 3 was present and congratulated Des and Jeff on their success.
“Happy 1st birthday Aussie Pet Collective,” said Cr Russell.
“It was worth a champas to acknowledge a growth from 14 to seventy businesses in only 12 months.
“Congratulations Des, Jeff and crew.”
You can find Aussie Pet Collective at 3377 Pacific Highway, Slacks Creek (next to Mr Toys).
