A promise has been made by the Federal Opposition to commitment of nearly half a million dollars towards the Kingston Butter Factory (KBF) redevelopment and it has been welcomed by Logan City Council.

Shadow Minister for Finance and Member for Rankin, Jim Chalmers MP, said a future Labor Government would contribute $429,000 towards the outdoor events space, which will have a capacity of 5000 and is designed to attract major concerts and events.

City of Logan Acting Mayor Cherie Dalley said she was pleased to see the KBF attracting external funding commitments.

“The KBF redevelopment is one of the biggest place-making initiatives in Logan’s history and will be a major social and economic driver going forward,” Cr Dalley said.

“It is great to see our local member is on board and eager to contribute to this exciting development.

“Every external funding commitment or grant is a win for ratepayers.

“It would be a great boost for our city to also see others commit funding towards this landmark project, as it will leave a significant legacy for our city for decades to come.”

The KBF redevelopment has two main components – an outdoor stage and events space set to rival any in South-East Queensland and an innovation hub that will house some of the finest start-ups and entrepreneurs in the country.

Despite the changes, the historic façade of the building will be preserved to maintain its heritage value.
