With around four months to the 2024 Local Government Elections, the candidates will begin to show their intentions to run for a position in council.
While maybe one of the worst kept secrets going, due to the large amount of time he has been working all over Logan, Councillor Jon Raven officially declares his candidacy for Mayor in the March 2024 elections.
Cr Raven has almost eight years of dedicated service to the City of Logan, including two years as Deputy Mayor, and prior to that ran his own business in the city.
Following Mayor Darren Power’s announcement that he will retire at the end of the term, Cr Jon Raven has put his hand up to lead Logan.
“I love this city and its people,” said Cr Raven.
“I bought my first home here, my teenage kids have lived here their whole lives. Logan is the centre of the universe for me, and there is so much potential here.
“This is a critical time for our city, if we make good decisions, and do the hard work now, we will all benefit for decades to come. I want to make sure that this chapter of our story is the best one yet,” he said.
As a Councillor, he’s been there for the community when they needed him most. During the floods he kept people informed and made sure they had what they needed to stay safe.
“I’d love to be the next Mayor of Logan. People want a Mayor who is on their side, and I’ve always worked hard to help people and be their champion in Council.”
Cr Jon Raven recognises the challenges and opportunities Logan faces and understands that working with the community is the best way to lead.
“Mayor Power cleaned up the mess that happened last term and now the city is ready to launch. This Council has been working well together in the interests of our community and I want to see that continue.
“I want to help our community and good leadership is needed most when times are tough.
Mayor Power has done a fantastic job of uniting our Council and getting the city back on track and I want to build on his good work. I have the experience and energy to get us through the challenges ahead,” he said.
His mayoral platform focuses on practical solutions for immediate challenges, managing growth and cost of living pressure, while keeping a focus on delivering infrastructure and services so he can present a clear vision for Logan’s future.
This announcement begins a conversation with the people of Logan, Cr Jon Raven wants to engage with the community, listen to their ideas and work together to transform Logan.
“Together, we can achieve great things for our city.
“We all know Logan is amazing, if I become Mayor, I will make sure the rest of the world knows why.
“But it’s not about what I want, it’s about what the community wants and I’m here to listen to their ideas and priorities.
