There seems that there are some issues between the media team and some councillors at the Logan City Council, with one councillor taking matters into her own pockets.

Cr Teresa Lane of division 2 has dug deep into her own money to produce and distribute “Cr Teresa Lane’s Div 2 Local News’ to residents of her area.

“I have paid for the printing and distribution of the newsletter at my own expense,” said Cr Lane on her Facebook page.

“Ratepayers weren’t billed a cent!

“People want to know what is happening locally and given we aren’t allowed in the MyLogan (meaning councils own OurLogan magazine printed bimonthly) magazine and there are no funds to print newsletters from Council, this was the only way to get the news out about good stuff happening in our area.”

Deliveries of her divisional newsletter will begin next week and has her followers liking the idea.

Living in Logan asked the council media team last year if councillors would like to contribute at no cost to the monthly magazine and were told “no, they are too busy to give a column each month”.

Councillors were given gag orders at the beginning of their term after the election and have been battling with the media team to get news out. Almost everything a councillor produces to media and other organisations need a tick of approval from the media team.

While the media team at council have a job to do, they are not giving freedom for councillors to tell residents what is happening in divisions.

It looks like the media team and council are working against each other and the losers are the residents yet again.
