From December 2 the Eagleby Pool will open its doors again for the community to enjoy after months of redevelopment.

The Eagleby Aquatic Centre has been used by the community for more than 30 years and in July 2022 council voted to close the facility permanently and not re-open.

After community uproar and months of community engagements with locals by Cr Karen Murphy, it was announced in March this year that the beach entry pool will reopen after development to the site.

“I want to assure everyone that I voted against the decision to close the pool in the July 2022 meeting,” Cr Murphy said in March.

“Following the closure, I advocated hard to ensure council goes out to the community straight away to seek their input and feedback on the future of the site in the masterplan.

“I am excited to confirm that while the lap pool will be demolished, the beach entry pool will be saved. This is a fantastic outcome that we can all be proud of,” said Cr Murphy.

In September this year, the Stage 1 Plan which consisted of reinstating the beach entry pool, installing embellishments such as shade umbrellas, shelters and seating areas and landscaping the existing car park began.

During the works, painting of buildings and amenities, new bins and platform seating was installed, the damaged lap pool demolished, filled, and turfed, site landscaping, strategic weed tree removal, tree trimming, and new rubber play items.

While the pool will be open from December 2, the official launch will be help on Saturday December 9 with a pool party.

“We will celebrate the reopening with a pool party on the first day of the school holidays,” said Cr Murphy.

“Locals can expect free entry, entertainment, and pool party fun all from 10am to 4pm.

“We have worked hard to get the pool open, the hours are longer and fees are staying the same, and we will celebrate on the 9th.”
