The Flagstone Men’s Shed was established in 2020 and has gone through some ups and downs, however the current management are working hard to grow the group and find a permanent home.
Currently the Flagstone Men’s Shed does not have a fixed location which does make it difficult. The team are focusing on increasing member numbers to be able to make a united front to approach council and the state government to get land for a shed.
Although they do not have a shed, the men meet at the community centre once a month and are working on doing monthly coffee catch ups at local cafes.
Secretary/Treasurer and allrounder Ricky, along with President Mike, are both mental health first aiders who are there to help not only the men of the group, but anyone in the community. Mental health is one of many things men’s sheds are good for.
To help raise funds for the group, they do sausage sizzles at community events held by Peet and host their own events. The money raised from these events and memberships pay for insurance.
Ricky and Mick have some big plans including starting a ‘Helping A Mate Program’ where members can utilise their skills and help a local repair a fence, fix and clean guttering and other odd jobs.
While they may not have a shed, the men, and women, of Flagstone Men’s Shed are already doing great things in Flagstone.
