With the appointment of Cr Laurie Koranski to Deputy Mayor last month, the chair position for the City Lifestyle Committee was left vacant due to Cr Koranski stepping down.

At todays Ordinary Council Meeting, a new chair was elected to the role.

Only one councillor nominated for the role, Cr Tony Hall, and was voted into the position unanimously and unopposed.

“I would just like to thank everyone for the vote of confidence for me to step into the role of Lifestyle chair,” said Cr Hall.

“It’s a very important portfolio for me as I’ve been involved in factors of the Lifestyle portfolio for most of my life. As many of you know, I grew up in parks, so I certainly know what it’s like when the park toilets aren’t up to scratch or if there’s no toilet paper.

“To me this is a very important portfolio, especially things like our libraries as without our public libraries I wouldn’t have been able to get an education, so I understand how important our public libraries are and how important the staff is in those libraries as they helped me through a very tough time in my life, so I’d like to see those services continue.”

As Cr Hall was the deputy chair for that committee, a new deputy was required. Two councillors nominated and both were appointed with full support from the council.

Cr Mindy Russell and Cr Natalie Willcocks will both take the role of deputy for the City Lifestyle Committee.

“I’d also like to congratulate my two new deputies for the portfolio,” Cr Hall added.

“I definitely know they’ll keep me in check and their great people as well. I look forward to working with you in the Lifestyle portfolio.”
