The Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce held their annual Prawn Day lunch event in early March at the Gold Coast Tiger Prawn farm which saw over 500 prawn lovers attend.

The event is the chambers largest for the year and their biggest fundraiser which allows them to do the work of supporting local businesses in the local community as well as raise funds for charity.

This year the chamber supported three local charities, Nightlight, Lighthouse, and Safe Haven Community.

A spokesperson from the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce said we were blown away by everyone’s generosity in supporting our three local charities this year.

“The BYCC board, in conjunction with our Prawn Peeling competition sponsor, Community Bank Logan – Bendigo (Beenleigh / Browns Plains / Loganholme and Springwood), would like to thank all our Prawn Day attendees who supported our charity partners by entering our Noel Herbst Prawn Peeling competition, buying raffle tickets on the day and those fantastic competition winners who so generously donated all of their prize money straight back.

“We are very proud to be able to confirm that Prawn Day raised $10,975 for these organisations that do so much good in our local community.”

The day included prawns, oysters, bugs, beer, wine, Canadian Club and spiced Beenleigh Rums including some prawn cocktails from Beenleigh High, the famous prawn peeling competition sponsored by Bendigo Bank, and live music by Brian Avery.
