Frontline workers have emerged as community heroes, and among them, dedicated Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) staff and volunteers.

South Eastern region section of QFES held their Australia Day Achievement Awards at the Beenleigh PCYC last month, postponed due to the sever weather events in Logan in January.

The annual QFES Australia Day Achievement Awards, supported by QSuper, recognise and celebrate the outstanding service of QFES staff and volunteers representing the State Emergency Service (SES), Rural Fire Service (RFS), and Fire and Rescue Service (FRS).

“The Australia Day Achievement Awards are a proud tradition of Queensland Fire and Emergency Services,” said Mark Stuart, Acting Assistant Commissioner, South Eastern Region QFES.

“Today gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of our outstanding people and their contributions over the past 12 months.

“Wheater responding to incidents on the front line or providing support to our staff or volunteers, our roles often demand courage, resilience and determination.”

Nikki Boyd MP, Misister for Fire and Disaster Recovery and Minister for Corrective Services was unable to attend, however Member for Macalister, Melissa McMahon MP, was able to fill in.

“We want to acknowledge the work that’s been done in the community the last 12 months, but more specifically the past two months here locally in the South East region,” said Ms McMahon.

“When we recognise your service, at the same time we also want to recognise the compassionate support our friends and family play because they’re the ones we often have to say goodbye to as we miss the family lunch to go serve our communities.”

The Australia Day Achievement Medallions are presented to individuals who have preformed exceptional work, above and beyond the normal course of duty, to provide a significant contribution to the delivery of emergency services in Queensland.

Seven Logan based members were awarded this medallion at the awards ceremony for their work.
