The battle for division four has begun with a second candidate announcing his intention to be the next councillor of the area.
Joshua Lucey announced officially launched his campaign this morning in the lead up to the 2024 Local Government Election that’s scheduled for Saturday, 16 March.
Division four takes in the suburbs of Bannockburn, Belivah, Buccan, Cedar Creek, Kairabah, Waterford, Windaroo, Wolffdene, Yarrabilba, and part of Bethania, Logan Village and Tamborine.
Joshua moved to Logan in early 2017 and has involved himself in the community serving as a board member and President of the Loganlea Community Centre and volunteered his time with PCYC on the Braking the Cycle Program. He is an active member of the Logan Village Lions Club and is the Secretary of the Yarrabilba Community Garden.
Currently working in the not-for-profit sector, Joshua has previously worked in the state government across several departments including Justice, Employment and Small Business.
“With the Council election just two months away, now it’s time we focus on what our rapidly growing community needs and expects from its council over the next four years and beyond,â€? Joshua said.
“I want our city to be the best place to call home in the country, and while I think that’s achievable, I also think a lot of work will need to be done in order to get us there. Which is why we need a strong, fresh, and most importantly dedicated voice in council.â€?
Joshua’s priorities during his campaign will be on increasing community consultation, attracting more jobs, improving community infrastructure, and tackling youth disengagement.
“I want our community to be involved in the plans and decisions the council makes for our area.
“Residents know what works and what doesn’t, so we need to do more to engage our community and listen directly to residents.
“With our community rapidly growing we also need to focus on stable employment opportunities in growth areas such as Yarrabilba and make sure residents can access the community infrastructure they need without having to travel to the other side of the city or leave the city entirely.”
He is also focused on improving infrastructure, making more enjoyable public spaces, and working with the community and others to tackle youth crime.
