The delayed press conference was never a good sign of good news and as many suspected Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has announced a snap lockdown for the south-eastern part of the state.
Currently the lockdown will last until Friday evening at 6pm.
“From 6.00pm tonight until 6.00pm on Friday, South-East Queensland, Townsville city, Palm Island and Magnetic Island will go into lock down,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“What we want to do is we want to give our contact tracers time to get on top of this. This is absolutely essential and we want to make sure that we stop the virus in its tracks.
“I know this is going to be tough for a lot of families. I apologise for that, but I don’t want to see people end up in our hospital on ventilators. That is the last thing I think anyone wants to see.”
Leaving home can only be for one of these four reasons:
1. To buy essentials such as groceries or medications
2. Work or study if you can’t do either from home
3. Exercise in your local area (with no more than one person outside of your household)
4. Healthcare or to provide help, care or support
