The Isuzu MU-X LS-U is the middle grade in the range and comes in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive.
The model tested was the 4×4 and with that comes seven seats, with plenty of room, air conditioning vents throughout and for a large family SUV, it certainly gets the job done.
All MU-Xs have a 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. They produce 140kW and 450Nm which is plenty for both on and off-road driving.
Standard on the LS-U are 18-inch alloy wheels, sidesteps, roof rails, automatic LED headlights and LED running lights, auto wipers, front and rear parking sensors, privacy glass on the rear windows, proximity key with push button start, carpet floor, 9.0-inch media display with Android Auto and Wireless Apple CarPlay, climate control and a power tailgate.
The Isuzu MU-X LS-U is the perfect SUV for those who enjoy getting off the beaten track and even trying something more adventurous when away from the safety of a sealed road.
Making it off-road ready are the standard features including a rear differential lock, 4×4 terrain command, rough terrain mode, downhill decent assist, and has an 800mm wading depth. If you are towing while getting away, the MU-X can pull 3.5 tonne braked.
Safety is also taken care of with Isuzu’s Intelligent Driver Assist which uses the latest technology to monitor the surrounding while you drive. Still on safety, the MU-Xs comes with AEB, adaptive cruise, lane keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, trailer sway control and eight airbags. It is also a five-star ANCAP rated vehicle.
The MU-X is based on the Isuzu D-MAX ute and shares much of the same engineering and similar styling, except it is coil springs in the rear. Because it is based on a ute, the interior lacks a high-end look, however it is still practical and easy to use.
Isuzu UTE Australia say 8.3L/100km where we got to the high eights, but that is nothing to complain about.
The MU-X drives like a ute and is not as sporty as some other large SUVs. However, that doesn’t matter because it handles the everyday perfectly and when you get off-road, the MU-X comes into its own.
The Isuzu is a brilliant choice for the adventuring family. Ready to go and tow $69,426.27.
