This month’s review is one for the boys. I discovered a café right in the middle of an industrial area. Blackout Coffee and Catering at 189 Magnesium Drive Crestmead is another secret in our great City of Logan. I know an industrial area is not a place many would frequent, unless working in the area, or like me getting lost, but that’s how I found this great place.

I really liked the look of the place from the road, plus there was some off-street parking so I pulled in. I nearly didn’t go in as the music was very loud, but I could see the staff were singing and dancing and having fun; so why not go in and check it out.

The menu covers all taste buds. I had smashed avo and pumpkin served on olive sourdough. What a combination as it was absolutely fantastic. My husband had savoury mince on olive and rosemary sourdough topped with poached eggs that he thoroughly enjoyed.

Other options included breakfast gnocchi, brekkie wrap, loaded double baked croissants plus house made sausage rolls and lots more. All this goes well the coffee which was also excellent. There is a good range of cold drinks such as smoothies, shakes and frappes plus of course soft drinks.

There is no sitting inside the café as the service area is small but outside is a different matter. They have a large undercover area with different styles of seating, from long tables to large barrels with stools around them which is all set out in an industrial décor. Plus, there is extra seating up a couple of stairs and under the trees, with cable reel tabletops and very comfortable chairs.

This is where the boys part come in to play. Every Friday Blackout opens the bar from 12 noon till 9pm. Called Booze and BBQ night, they have the smoker going all morning to prepare for the afternoon. On the first Friday of the month there’s Caffeine and Classics from 4.30pm till 9.30pm, where you will see all types of classic cars lined up on the street.

Blackout has been going for 10 years they also do catering, individual meals, grazing boxes and savoury or sweet spreads. Check this place out, a true gem. They are open M-T 5am to 2pm Friday 5am-9pm and Saturday 6am-12pm. Great staff and fantastic food so you can’t go wrong here.
